![]() Olivia’s depiction of the romantic and commercial mores of a long-ago New York and Amanda’s off-the-moment life in New York are revealed in alternating chapters. ![]() ![]() I read this brainy thriller on holiday recently and highly recommend it.Īmanda, proprietor of the eponymous vintage clothing shop, discovers in an old muff the diary of a young woman named Olivia Westcott who came to Manhattan to seek her fortune as a department-store buyer in 1907. Amber Hewerdine, suffering chronic insomnia, visits Giny Saxon, a hypnotherapist, and unleashes a five-word fragment that draws together a mysterious family holiday in 2003, two seemingly unrelated murders several years later and an amusingly dysfunctional local constabulary. ![]() All five of this week’s novels are bound together by a common theme of family ties - and the secrets, deceptions and love that bind them.Ĭalling this plot serpentine doesn’t do it justice. ![]()
